An awesome movie, highly recommended. Guillermo del Toro’s take on Alice’s classic theme, through a very, very dark looking glass and in the context of the Spanish civil war. A must see.
From my personal perspective, the central message of the movie is that evil exists and it knows no limits. It can harm you physically, but it can also haunt your imagination, leaving you no place to hide. It can reach within your innermost fantasies and threaten even the purest, the most pristine of your dreams. And yet, innocence has a power that evil cannot imagine.
