I saw the epic match between Nadal and Federer last Sunday live on NBC. At the end, Nadal went to celebrate with his parents and then walked to greet the future King and Queen of Spain. It was funny to listen to John McEnroe, who barely knew who they were: “I believe that is royalty from Spain that was invited here to be in the royal box today.” For me, it sounded almost like one of those old jokes. It was as if, all of a sudden, the Pope would appear on the tennis court and the American commentator would say something like: “Who’s that guy in white embracing Nadal?” ;-)
Este domingo, vi el partidazo de tenis que jugaron Nadal y Federer en la final de Wimbledon. Al final, Nadal fue a celebrar la victoria con sus padres y luego fue a saludar a los príncipes de España, que habían presenciado el partido para animarle. Me hizo mucha gracia escuchar en directo a John McEnroe, comentarista de la nbc, quien apenas sabía quienes eran, ya que soltó una frase del tipo: “Creo que debe ser alguien de la realeza en España, que estaba invitado al partido”. A mí, la verdad, me sonó casi a chiste. Solo faltaba que, de repente, hubiera aparecido el Papa en medio de la pista y el comentarista americano hubiera preguntado extrañado: “¿Quién es ese tío vestido de blanco que le está dando un abrazo a Nadal?” :-)
