Randy Pausch died on July 25, 2008. He was given a choice, the same one that we have all been given, only with a much shorter time frame: get busy living, or get busy dying. He chose to live and during his last months, among other things, not only did he write a book that became a New York Times bestseller and has been translated to 17 languages, but he was also able to make a couple of childhood dreams come true, including a film role in the latest Star Trek movie and a training session with the Pittsburgh Steelers NFL team. Quoting a phrase commonly attributed to Abraham Lincoln, his passion, courage and determination show that “in the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years”.
Randy Pausch murió el 25 de Julio de 2008. Como todos nosotros, se vio obligado a elegir entre dos opciones, aunque en su caso el horizonte temporal se truncó de golpe: dedicarse a morir, o dedicarse a morir. Eligió vivir plenamente sus últimos días, y durante el tiempo que le quedaba por delante llegó a escribir un bestseller que ha sido traducido a 17 idiomas. También fue capaz de hacer realidad un par de sueños de su infacia, como aparecer en una de las últimas películas de Star Trek, o entrenarse con el equipo de futbol americano profesional de los Pittsburg Steelers. Recordando un cita que habitualmente se le atribuye a Abraham Lincoln, su coraje, su pasión y su determinación demuestran que “al final, lo que importa no es la cantidad de años que hay en tu vida, sino la cantidad de vida que hay en tus años”.
