During the last few weeks, there has not been a lot of activity in this blog. The end of the school year is keeping me very busy living indeed. Fortunately, the end of the semester is quickly approaching and once I’m done with all my courses and TA duties, I expect to bring the blog back to life. Until then, I wanted to let you know about a fundraising race that I will participate on May 10th, in Philadelphia.
Together with some friends, I have decided to run in the Komen Philadelphia Race for the Cure. The goal is to raise money to help in the fight against breast cancer. Our team, which consists of more than 10 people, is called “the Running Crabs” (eventhough we are not planning to run backwards ;-). We will be facing a 5 km urban circuit in the Streets of Philadelphia (that’s right, like the song). Anyone who wants to sponsor us, can make a donation online by simply clicking on this link to my personal fundraising page. Whatever you can give will help! The funds that we raise will be used to fund vital breast cancer education, screening and treatment programs, as well as to support the scientific search for a cure.

Durante las últimas semanas, he tenido el blog un poco abandonado. El fin de curso me ha tenido y me tiene enormemente ocupado. No obstante, el semestre está ya prácticamente terminado y en cuanto acabe del todo, espero retomar el blog con energías renovadas. Hasta entonces, quería simplemente hablaros de una carrera benéfica en la que pienso participar el 10 de mayo, en Filadelfia.
Junto con unos amigos, me he apuntado para participar en la Komen Philadelphia Race for the Cure. El objetivo es recaudar fondos para la lucha contra el cáncer de mama. Nuestro equipo se llama “the Running Crabs” (es decir, los “Cangrejos Corredores” ;-) La carrera en sí consiste en un circuito urbano de 5km por las calles de Filadelfia. Interestingly enough, the race will start near the famous stairs from the Museum of Art, that became immortalized in the Rocky movies, and we will be running along some of the same sights that the boxer ran by throughout the years. I guess that it won´t do us harm to train a little bit like him before the race. Gonna fly now, flying high now. Gonna fly, fly, fly…
Curiosamente, la carrera comenzará muy cerquita de las famosas escaleras del Museo de Arte, que quedaron inmortalizadas en las películas de Rocky. Seguramente, pasaremos corriendo al lado de algunos de los sitios por los que el boxeador pasaba cuando se entrenaba. Y hablando de entrenamiento, supongo que no nos vendrá mal practicar un poco antes del día de la carrera. ¿Os suena la musiquilla? ;-)
