My summer ended officially this Wednesday, when my brother David flew back to Spain after spending the month of August in Baltimore. His visit, combined with the fact that I did not take any holidays in August and had to work every day at the lab, prevented me from writing any posts during the last month. This is the fourth summer in a row that he comes to the US (proof here and here), and we had an awesome time together (as has always been the case with all his previous visits).
Cuando mi hermano David se montó en el avión para volar a España después de haber pasado aquí el mes de Agosto, yo di por concluido el verano. Su visita, unida al hecho de que ya había agotado mis vacaciones y tuve que ir a trabajar todos los días al laboratorio, es la causa de que no haya escrito ningún post en el blog durante el último mes. Este es el cuarto verano de seguido que viene a Baltimore (como se demuestra aquí y aquí) y, como todas las otras veces lo pasamos de maravilla juntos.
We started the month with Ruben and Noelia’s visit, who had got married in Aranjuez just a week earlier. Together, we climbed the famous “Rocky Stairs” in Philly and enjoyed the beauty of the city lights at the Inner Harbor in Baltimore.
El mes comenzó con la visita de Rubén y Noelia, que se acababan de casar una semana antes en Aranjuez. Juntos, subimos las famosas “escaleras de Rocky” en Filadelfia y disfrutamos por la noche de las luces del puerto de Baltimore.
The following day, Marta joined us for a daytrip to Annapolis, where we visited the Naval Academy and enjoyed a cruise that took us to a beautiful lighthouse in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay.
Al día siguiente, Marta vino con nosotros de excursión a Annapolis, donde visitamos la Academia Naval e hicimos un pequeño crucero en barco que nos llevó hasta un faro situado en medio de la Chesapeake Bay.
New Orleans was the chosen destination for our next weekend escapade. We enjoyed the nightlife of legendary Bourbon Street, we ate the famous beignets at Café du Monde near St. Louis Cathedral and we went on the traditional steamboat Natchez.
Nueva Orleans fue el destino elegido para nuestra siguiente escapada de fin de semana. Disfrutamos de la noche en la legendaria Bourbon Street, desayunamos los famosos beignets del Café du Monde junto a la catedral de San Luis, montamos en el barco de vapor (sí, como la editorial ;-).
We even spent some time in the swamps, having fun with the alligators.
Incluso hicimos una excursioncilla a los pantanos, donde tuvimos ocasión de saludar a un par de cocodrilos.
For the last weekend, we took the bus to the Big Apple. We ate some deliciously unhealthy food that probably provided us with around a trillion calories, we watched the relatively new Shrek musical in Broadway, went out at night in the lower East Village, had a jazz brunch at Greenwhich Village and ended up enjoying the view from the rooftop garden at 230 Fifth Avenue.
El último fin de semana, tomamos un autobús para ir a la Gran Manzana. Allí, nos pusimos ciegos a base de comida de dudoso contenido nutricional (hamburguesas, helados, pasteles y cosas por el estilo, que debían tener un trillón de calorías en total), fuimos a ver el musical de Shrek en Broadway, salimos por la noche en el lower East Village, hicimos un brunch con jazz en el Greenwich Village y terminamos tomandonos una copa y disfrutando de las vistas en la terraza del 230 en la Quinta Avenida.
