Continuing with the ‘tourist in Washington DC’ series, last week we went for a daytrip to the Theodore Roosevelt Island. The island, located on the Potomac river at some point near the Lincoln memorial on one side and Arlington Cemetery on the other, is a national park in memory of the 26th president of the United States.
Once you get there, there is really not much to do other than walking around and enjoying the quietness and the beauty of the trees. We went on a beautiful Autumn day, and the leaves cracked below our feet as we ventured into the highly domesticated wilderness.
At one point, we even stood just a few meters away from a deer, who did not seem too bothered by our presence, used as it probably is to the curious gazes of fellow Washingtonians passing by. Can you spot it in the photo?
After that, we had a quick lunch/diner at Georgetown, which is one of the most famous neighborhoods of the capital and which I had never been to until now.
Temperatures grow colder with every passing day, but life goes on, here, at the heart of the empire.
